Power to the Female

The theme of this issue, “Power to the Female,” was inspired  by one image I took of Haley McCown. The image was of her facing away from the camera with her arms raised with one crossing over to the other interlocking as she gazed into the sunrise. It was a simple pose silhouetted by ever changing colors and textures in a natural coastline landscape. The image was special and powerful and told an inspiring story. This image not only inspired me, but also inspired many women who saw it. They were drawn to this idea of Power to the Female, and wanted to express what it was inside of them that made them feel like a powerful female. This issue features 12 women as they tell their stories set in landscapes along the California coastline.

Without my very talented wife, Julia Held, this magazine could not be a reality. Because of her teachings, I have grown to be the photographer I am today. Julia and I have long desired to design our own publication. We have combined our photography and graphic design passion to create our own style and perspective.

In this world of creating any art form it is important to remember the end goal is to uplift, support, and nurture each other’s growth and success. Without each other it is not possible. This magazine belongs to all of us, and that is what makes this project special to me. l am blessed to be surrounded by support, talent, dedication, passion, and love. I am sending my Aloha to each and every one that has contributed to make this happen.

I wish to dedicate this issue to my wife and soulmate. She is truly one of the most beautiful and powerful women I know. Julia Held, I love you and thank you. I am so proud of Emotive Magazine
